Air Duct Cleaning in Humble, TX

What flooding, pine and river-bottom soil do to Humble ductwork

Waiting costs more here than in most of Harris County. Humble sits low, in the Lake Houston and San Jacinto River bottomlands, with Caney Creek nearby. Harvey-era water reached a lot of homes. Silt that entered a floor boot does not leave on its own. It dries, then reactivates every humid week. Odor comes back in June. A moldy return chase feeds the whole house, not one room.

Check three things yourself. Lift a floor register and look for a gray silt line in the boot. Open the closet where the air handler sits and look at the platform's base (low platforms took on water). Then look at the return: in many homes it is a framed wall cavity, not sheet metal, and it pulls attic and wall dust straight into the blower.

Duct stock is mixed. The FM 1960 subdivisions from the 1970s often still have ductboard or fiberglass-lined metal. Those interior surfaces shed once the facing erodes and cannot be scrubbed like bare metal. Atascocita-era homes use flex, which sags and traps debris at every low spot.

Dense pine and sandy river-bottom soil load filters faster than the clay-soil west side. That changes how often this work is needed.

What happens after you call us

Step 1

Call and tell us how many vents and returns you have, and whether the air handler sits in the attic. We give you a two hour arrival window with the tech's name, no deposit.

Step 2

We open the attic, pull a return grille, and look at the plenum and the flex runs before we say a number. The estimate is free and the quote is firm.

Step 3

We brush and vacuum every run, clean the blower and coil face, test airflow at the farthest register, and set a fresh filter. Drop cloths come up, and you pay the quoted number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our house took water during Harvey — does that change what duct cleaning should involve?

Yes, and it's the first thing we ask about in Humble. If water got into the living space, the parts that matter most are the floor boots, the return chase, and the air handler platform in a low closet. Sediment and silt settle in boots and don't vacuum out the way ordinary dust does. A return chase built into a wall cavity can hold moisture long after the drywall was replaced. We open things up and look before quoting a cleaning. If there's lingering contamination in a boot, or the platform decking is still soft, cleaning the ducts alone isn't the answer. You'd want that addressed first, or you're just recirculating the problem.

Our subdivision off FM 1960 was built in the late 70s. Is that old ductwork even cleanable?

Usually, but it depends what you have. A lot of that era around here is ductboard trunks or fiberglass-lined sheet metal, and the interior lining gets fragile with age and humidity. Aggressive brushing on deteriorated ductboard tears the surface and makes things worse. We work it differently than we would the flex runs in a newer Atascocita-area build: lower-contact agitation, more reliance on vacuum. We tell you straight if a section is too far gone to clean and should be replaced instead. Newer flex is more forgiving, though we still find crushed or sagging runs in attics where somebody stepped on them.

What do you find most often in Humble homes?

A few things come up repeatedly. Pine pollen and needle debris pulled in through returns, because of how heavily wooded this area is. Fine sandy grit from the river-bottom soil, which is lighter and travels further into the system than the heavier clay dust on the west side of Houston. And moisture-related problems: high humidity near Lake Houston means sweating plenums, damp flex insulation, and mildew smell at the supply registers, particularly when a system is oversized and short-cycles instead of running long enough to pull humidity down. The smell complaint is what usually gets people to call.

Can you come out the same day?

Sometimes, especially midweek and in the slower stretches. Humble, Atascocita, and the Kingwood side are all close together for us, so if a slot opens we can often fill it without a long drive. Same-day is hardest in late spring and after any heavy rain event, when the humidity and odor calls stack up. If we can't get you in that day, we'll usually have something within a couple of days, and we'll say so when you call rather than leaving you waiting.
